Deportation is serious business!
Deportation is the formal removal of an alien from the United States when the alien has been found removable for violating the immigration laws. Deportation is ordered by an immigration judge without any punishment being imposed or contemplated.
Present alien in the US
If you are an alien who is present in the U.S. in violation of the immigration laws, or if you are an alien who has been legally admitted in the United States, but have certain criminal convictions, for example, you are subject to removal. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) may initiate removal proceedings against you. ICE may even detain you while these proceedings follow their course.
